Meet Coach Markus
MA, PN1
Rooted in the science of nutrition and behavior change, my program leverages an evidence-based approach, prioritizing long-term health and proven results.
I have a MA in Education, a Teaching Credential, and am a Precision Nutrition (PN) Certified Nutrition Coach. I am a former professional swim coach, a track and field coach, and currently a world-ranked Masters Track and Field sprinter. With a background in fitness, education, parenting a daughter, and overcoming life’s many challenges, I bring warmth, enthusiasm, and encouragement to my coaching.
I’ve been told my ability to see the best in each person and draw it out makes me an inspiring coach. I am a coach who cares. I listen without judgement to understand each person from a biopsychosocial perspective. I follow-up and can be your accountability partner. I ask for specific feedback on how I can help you better. My own journey overcoming challenges, including injuries and setbacks, has fueled my passion for coaching and helping others improve their lives.
I am a life-long learner, continuing my education by pursuing a Precision Nutrition Sleep, Stress Management and Recovery Certificate as well as an NSCA Certified Personal Trainer certificate. Both will be completed in the Summer of 2024.

Laura Eklund, LCSW
Mental Health Therapist, Trauma Specialist
I've been practicing as a therapist since 2004, initially in private and group settings.
I utilize various therapy methods, such as CBT and ACT, to address anxiety and depression, and EMDR for trauma and stress disorders. Many of my clients have found EMDR to be a swift and highly effective treatment they wish they had discovered sooner.
I also bring extensive expertise in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I was privileged to be part of a 2012 Ben Hudnell Grant aimed at developing a DBT program for the Kaiser Permanente Psychiatry Department. I believe the coping skills taught in DBT are indispensable, not only for alleviating suffering and addressing problematic behaviors but also for cultivating a life filled with purpose and fulfillment.

It’s very common to struggle with restrictive diets, because this approach tells you WHAT to do instead of actually teaching you how to eat better within the context of YOUR lifestyle.
So while some people are able to get results initially, most actually end up gaining all the weight they lost back again. And they realize that approach simply doesn't work in the long run.
-
Absolutely! I can help you manage (and even overcome) your health conditions while working with you. While I don’t treat medical conditions directly, I am trained to coach those with health conditions or in various life phases. These may include, but are not limited to, diabetes, hypertension, hypo/hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and specialty diets such as gluten-free or vegetarian/vegan.
I will partner with your registered dietitian and any other medical providers while working with you.
-
Before your introductory meeting, I will send you an intake questionnaire. It’ll take about 20 minutes to complete and helps me understand your goals, preferences, and routines. After submitting your responses, I will schedule your initial meeting.

To confirm eligibility to use HSA/FSA funds for coaching with me, you are required to obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity from a medical provider stating that weight loss would be beneficial for prevention or treatment of a specific medical condition.
Generally, most HSA and FSA plans will cover services for weight loss support when these services are determined to be medically necessary for prevention or treatment of a documented medical diagnosis. To confirm whether your plan qualifies, it is recommended that you contact your HSA/FSA provider directly to make sure you are eligible.
